About NSI

The National Security Inspectorate mission is to secure the highest standards of safety and security for buyers of commercial and domestic fire and security systems, guarding and security services, through independent, third party audit and certification in the UK and Eire.

The first certification body to be licensed by BAFE to provide third party certification for providers of fire detection and alarm systems (BAFE SP203-1) in 2002, since then NSI has broadened its proposition and is currently licensed to audit companies for the BAFE Fire Safety Schemes listed above.

More fire safety organisations of all sizes across the UK choose NSI as their third party certification body to gain BAFE scheme approval than any other.

NSI’s application process provides each applicant organisation with an impartial evaluation of their compliance with BAFE scheme requirements, including their technical competencies and understanding of relevant Standards.  It provides independent verification of an organisation’s compliance with the requirements of their chosen BAFE schemes, clearly identifying where strengths and weaknesses lie – invaluable for a business seeking to benchmark itself and prove its credentials. Applicant organisations are assigned a dedicated expert NSI auditor, IRCA qualified, well versed in the latest standards, and with a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of BAFE scheme requirements.

Following a successful application process, coveted NSI Gold or Silver approval is awarded, the gateway to BAFE registration being granted.

NSI Gold approval requires organisations to operate a BS EN ISO 9001 Quality Management System aligned with NSI’s unique Quality Schedule, demonstrating they operate to a ‘higher bar’ than if they were approved under some other Schemes. Hence NSI Gold approvals are indicative of capability and provide assurance over and above the specialist competences demonstrated by some other approval schemes.

NSI is the UK's most highly trusted and respected, UKAS-accredited certification body independently approving (certificating) over 1900 companies within the security and fire safety sector.

As a not-for-profit organisation protecting homeowners, businesses, the public sector and the general public for over 50 years, NSI counts premium local providers, as well as the UK's premier security and fire safety providers amongst its clients. Its reputation and breadth of experience of assessing organisations against British and International Standards and industry Codes of Practice is well recognised.
