FIA reveals new qualifications for the fire detection and alarm sector
Tuesday 9th May 2017
The Fire Industry Association (FIA) has revealed that it will be offering four new qualifications for the fire detection and alarm sector.
The qualifications in design, installing, maintaining, and commissioning fire alarms will be available nationwide at a range of centres in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland and are approved by the relevant government bodies for official qualifications in each country.
BAFE welcomes the initiative taken by the Fire Industry Association to develop Ofqual accredited standards for fire alarm technician training. When nationally recognised standards for technician training is formalised into the British Standards, BAFE will ensure that our scheme SP203-1 includes these requirements, in the same way that the Emergency Lighting (SP203-4) and Portable Fire Extinguisher Maintenance scheme (SP101/ST104) already do.
This is an exciting time for the fire alarm industry with the new standards for Apprentice training also being published by the stakeholder group. BAFE actively encourages all initiatives to improve technician competence.
The FIA will be officially launching the qualifications at their stand at FIREX International (20th-22nd June at ExCel London). For more information please visit www.fia.uk.com
