BAFE DS301 Assessment and Registration Process

A step-by-step process of how to become Third Party Certificated and BAFE Registered to the BAFE DS301 Design, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of Grade D Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems in Domestic Premises Scheme can be found below.

Please Note

The BAFE DS301 Design, Installation, Commissioning and Maintenance of Grade D Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems in Domestic Premises Scheme Document outlines all the requirements for gaining BAFE DS301 Registration (see Downloads). The step-by-step information below is an outline of the process.

Important Information - Modular Scheme
The DS301 Scheme is modular. This means organisations can become Third-Party Certificated for one or more of the following modules: Design, Installation, Commissioning, and/or Maintenance. Please specify which of these four modules you require to become Third-Party Certificated for when contacting relevant Certification Bodies for assessment. The BAFE DS301 Scheme Document notes: “For the avoidance of doubt organisations are not permitted to undertake any work activities, that fall into the scope of this scheme, for which they have not been certificated.” (Clause 2 - Scope 2.2 Note 1) This means that, for example, organisations who deliver all four of these areas must achieve Third-Party Certification/BAFE Registration for all four modules.

Step 1

Check requirements of the BAFE DS301 Scheme – download and read the BAFE DS301 Competency Scheme Document (see Downloads). For this Scheme you do not need ISO9001 certification. However, you are required to have robust quality Management Systems in place. This is explained in the Scheme Document (Clause 8). An internal review should be performed using this document to see if your organisation complies with all the necessary requirements.

Step 2

Certification Bodies deliver the BAFE Scheme assessments. Contact Certification Bodies directly to discuss the BAFE DS301 assessment process and costs for this (Note: BAFE DS301 fees are included within the Certification Body assessment costs, you do not pay any fees directly to BAFE for this Scheme).

Certification Body Contact Information for BAFE DS301 Assessment

Your chosen Certification Body will deliver the BAFE DS301 Scheme assessment. On satisfactory completion of the assessment process, the applicant organisation will be awarded Third-Party Certification to the scope of BAFE DS301.

Step 3

When you have achieved Third-Party Certification to the scope of DS301, your Certification Body will inform BAFE directly of this (including information of a Primary Contact, Principal Duty Holder, Qualified Supervisor, and any other key personnel on BAFE’s request).

Step 4

Your organisation will then be added to the BAFE Fire Safety Register online, which will enable all users searching for Third-Party Certificated BAFE Registered Companies for this service to access your information.

BAFE will then contact you providing your electronic BAFE DS301 Scheme Registration Certificate (supplied in PDF format) and BAFE Domestic Scheme logo. At this point you will be permitted to display the BAFE Registered Organisation logo and promote your BAFE DS301 Registration where appropriate.

Important Information
Once Third-Party Certificated and BAFE Registered to BAFE DS301, your organisation will be subject to ongoing assessments by your Certification Body (usually on an annual basis) to ensure that you continue to comply with the BAFE DS301 Scheme requirements.
Please note this scheme is operated by Certification Bodies on our behalf and BAFE Registration fees will be included within the Certification Body assessment costs. Please discuss this with the Certification Bodies that offer BAFE DS301 assessment for more information.
Ongoing costs may involve a nominal fee for the generation (and administration) of the Certificates of Compliance via your chosen Certification Body - Please refer to the BAFE DS301 Scheme Document and contact your chosen Certification Body directly regarding this.
