The BAFE Kitchen Fire Protection Systems Scheme (SP206) has received a lot of support throughout the industry and beyond.
“The BAFE SP206 Scheme will help to ensure the competency of Third Party Certificated Organisations involved in the design, installation, commissioning, service & maintenance of Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems in the UK. The Certificate of Compliance issued upon completion of the work, will give the end user, insurance companies and other authorities confidence that the work on the specific installation has been undertaken in a competent manner and in compliance with the manufacturer’s instructions. The scheme also provides confidence that the Certificated Organisation is being continuously audited to ensure they are adhering closely to the Manufacturers requirements and employing competent staff holding up to date Manufacturer training, on an on-going basis.”

“Nobel Fire welcome the arrival of BAFE SP206 and were proud to have taken part in its formulation. Nobel see SP206 as a major milestone in the evolution of Kitchen fire suppression systems. Having manufactured the K-Series systems for over 20 years we have seen the transition from kitchen fire systems turning from being completely ignored or a tick box on an options list to what is now seen as a critical part of a business continuity and protection plan. It has become part of the primary considerations a responsible kitchen owner/operator takes to ensure they offer the best levels of protection to their staff and customers and also to conform to the growing demand from Insurers to properly safeguard their business.
SP206 assists manufactures and their distributors to provide a recognised mark of quality to the ongoing efficacy of an installed system. It acts as evidence to owners that their fire system is primarily in specification with the manufacturers original design and installation manual but critically it also demonstrates to external parties such as insurers and fire authorities that the most responsible route has been taken to ensure that a fully accredited and trained maintenance engineer has attended to check and tested their fire system. Fire is phenomenally destructive in catering establishments and the recognition of that has been a long time coming. Perhaps as SP206 gathers pace the seriousness of a fire will be seen alongside and with the same level of respect shown for gas and electrical installations.”
