BAFE SP101 Competency of Portable Fire Extinguisher Organizations and Technicians Scheme - Management System Route

Organizations who wish to obtain BAFE SP101 Registration must first implement a management system via either an ISO9001 (to the scope of BAFE SP101) certification or a management system (to the scope of BAFE SP101) certification from a UKAS Accredited Certification Body. Please note following Third Party Certification being awarded, the organization need to apply directly to BAFE complete the process of becoming a BAFE SP101 Registered Company.

BSI (British Standards Institution), Independent European Certification Limited, NSI (National Security Inspectorate) and SSAIB (Security Systems Alarm Inspection Board) are the UKAS Accredited Certification Bodies that are licensed by BAFE to deliver BAFE SP101 Scheme assessment (Management System Route). Once a company has achieved ISO 9001 (to the scope of SP101) or Management System audit certification (to the scope of SP101) they will need to complete a company application and technician application form/s (downloadable from the BAFE website and forward to BAFE. Subject to details being satisfactory, BAFE will produce a certificate and release the relevant logos to promote your registration. The company will have its name placed on the National List of BAFE Registered Organizations, which is available online to the public free of charge or may be verified by reference on the BAFE website (

Please Note: As part of the BAFE SP101 scheme, BAFE and your chosen Certification Body will share organization and technician data. This is stated in the scheme document (Clause 13.2 note 15 and Clause 15.1 note 1).
