The BAFE Fire Safety Register are pleased to announce Howard Passey has joined the BAFE Board of Directors

Howard Passey, currently in the position of Deputy Managing Director of the Fire Protection Association (FPA), has accepted an invitation to join the BAFE Board.

Howard has been with the FPA since 1992, working in multiple roles during this tenure. This includes varying roles from Training/Information Officer to Principal Consultant, and more recently as Director of Operations. Prior to joining the FPA, Howard trained as a land surveyor and subsequently worked 8 years in the construction industry. He has extensive experience working in the FPA’s fire advisory division and is a well-respected and skilled Fire Risk Assessor.

On news of Howard’s confirmation that he would join the BAFE Board of Directors, Dr Justin Maltby-Smith (Group Managing Director of the BAFE Fire Safety Register), said “Howard’s esteemed career, knowledge, and skills made him an important addition to the BAFE Board, which BAFE are thrilled he has accepted our invitation to support BAFE in this position. We are in an important phase of developing our schemes, raising the bar of competency, and raising the profile of third-party certification. Howard’s support and guidance alongside our other respected Board Directors will be extremely welcome. We welcome Howard to the Board and look forward to working with him.”

Howard stated “It was an easy decision to make when BAFE asked if I would be interested in joining their Board of Directors. BAFE have been operating for close to four decades now, and in more recent years I have witnessed real improvements being made to their operation, available competency schemes, and engagement with the wider sector.

I appreciate Justin’s comments and also look forward to working with him, Douglas [BAFE Chair], and BAFE Board to ensure robust avenues are available to the sector to evidence their competence. This is a crucial time for the sector, and I hope that my engagement with the wider Board and BAFE team will assist in steering decision making to achieve their goals and provide suitable guidance where it is required.”

The BAFE team welcome Howard Passey on the BAFE Board of Directors.
