BAFE are aware of statements circulating on social media suggesting that the recommendation in BS 5839-1:2025 for Manual Call Points (MCPs) to be fitted with covers must be applied retrospectively. However, this claim is incorrect as recommendations are generally not applied retrospectively. It is a normative requirement of the BAFE SP203-1 Scheme to comply with BS 5839-1:2025 and registered organisations should not impose their own requirements without due technical consideration.
