BAFE Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update for BAFE SP101 Registered Companies 01/04/2020
Wednesday 1st April 2020
Information Published 01/04/2020
Please refer to the BAFE Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update 01/04/2020 for information regarding company Third Party Certification.
Updates on information relating to BAFE SP101 Scheme can be found below.
BS 5306 Exams are currently suspended until further notice. We are constantly reviewing the status of our exam provision and will provide further updates in the coming weeks.
Trainers (external of BAFE) may still provide course to candidates, but they have been advised that we are not able to support an exam at the end of the course. We have also been advised that IFEDA have suspended all training until June.
Fire extinguisher technician assessments have been suspended at present. We will continue to review this and advise of any updates over the coming weeks.
The requirement for updated refresher training has been extended for an initial period of 3 months from 1st April 2020. Beyond that date the 6 months grace period within BS 5306-3 will suffice:
“It might not be possible to adhere precisely to a 3 year period, but this is acceptable provided that the refresher training has been officially booked before the 3-year anniversary and the course completed within 6 months of the 3-year anniversary. Failure to follow this procedure entails completing the initial training again.” - BS 5306-3:2017
Please note BAFE do not normally view this as acceptable but view the current situation as an exception to use this grace period where required. If you can complete a refresher exam and able to provide the evidence of this, we will continue to accept these in the normal way. We will continue to review this and advise of any updates over the coming weeks. There are several recognised online courses for asbestos awareness and Health and Safety training and competence certificates from these will be accepted as required.
