One of the fundamental principles of third-party certification is that it is impartial and free from bias. In order to provide confidence, it is essential that certification decisions are based solely on objective evidence of conformity and are not influenced by other interests.

Accreditation is the formal recognition that a certification body is competent to assess specific processes, activities, or tasks in a reliable credible and accurate manner.  Accreditation demonstrates that certification is:

  • objective, transparent and effective,
  • reliable, ethical and competent, and
  • uses competent assessors and technical experts

For electrotechnical fire safety services for example, bodies such as NICEIC with BAFE offer certification that is impartial, robust and offers confidence to customers.

NICEIC supports BAFE’s Don’t Just Specify, Verify campaign because it links back to the golden thread  and the theme of evidenced competence that was at the heart of Dame Judith Hackitt’s post Grenfell report .

By working with a registered contractor,  you are telling the world that you are committed to using businesses that have been independently assessed and have the certified competence to install measures for specific work area and/or standard. - Dani Putney, Certification and Accreditation Services Manager - Certsure LLP
