CIC (Construction Industry Council) support BAFE Campaign - Don't Just Specify, Verify Third Party Certification

The Construction Industry Council has welcomed greater competency measures introduced following the Grenfell Tower fire. We had strong involvement in the Competence Steering Group’s Setting the Bar report, of which I am incredibly proud of. Within this, I commented on the importance of enhanced competencies that should be required for working on all buildings. As summarised in the report, I noted “we would see higher-risk buildings as a starting point for the new competence frameworks for the whole of the built environment. It has always been the intention of our work that, in line with Dame Judith’s aspirations, we are setting out to change the culture of the whole industry.”

The Construction Industry Council support BAFE’s Don’t Just Specify, Verify campaign because when it comes to the built environment, competency matters. UKAS Accredited Third Party Certification is an important factor when evaluating a contractor’s competency. Moving forward there is a strong requirement for consistent competence in delivering safety related works. - Graham Watts OBE, Chief Executive - CIC
